That's what I have to keep telling myself. It's just furniture. My uncle called last night. They finally were able to go look at Grandpa's furniture which is stored at their house. Both of Grandma's china cabinets are claimed. I am so disappointed! But, as KD said, I got the important part, the actual china. I honestly don't begrudge whoever is getting the cabinet. My uncle would not tell me who is getting the cabinet. I just wish that people would have remembered when it was being moved out of Grandpa's house that I wanted it...I even offered to pay for it at one point when Grandpa was thinking of selling it. My mom is the oldest of seven siblings who never talk to each other. My uncle did not say when he called "Hi, it's Uncle FirstName". Instead he said, "Hi, it's FirstName LastName". I'm sad and disappointed, and last night I cried. But I won't say anything more because it is quite possible that certain members of my mother's family could read this website since I have it on my Facebook page ;-) Thanks to everyone for cheering me on. If it weren't for wanting to know what outrageous thing Darla would say, I'm not sure I would have had the courage to keep calling.
On to more positive things!
I have TWO blooming crocuses in my front yard! It's this year's first blooms. Last year I totally missed the crocuses because I worked full-time and they were always closed by the time I got home...and my days off were always rainy. I went to take a picture, but they aren't open for today yet.
And I've nearly finished a project! Behold my piano bench before: (Ok, nevermind, I can't find the before picture. How annoying! I couldn't find the before pictures for our bathroom renovation either! The bench was just an outdoor bench with the slatted top, of a medium coloured wood...you'll have to imagine it. The store called it a "Tennis Bench".)
And after! All I have left to do is glue the upholstered top onto the bench, and possibly add some fringe around it. What do you think about fringe for this bench? I absolutely love the colour that I painted it. It's a pale grey-green. I mixed two colours together: "fawn beige" and "farm life". This is my first furniture painting attempt.
