Backyard Bliss

This is my tiny tiny back yard. Some pictures are from last week, some are from today. I'm particularly proud of my patio. I laid it by myself, and I love it, despite its unevenness. I wasn't about to dig up 30 years of tree roots, and we couldn't afford sand or gravel to help level it, so I just did the best I could, and it worked out! It has an old rustic woodland look, which works great with all the shade I have. And yes, that is a pot of rocks on the table. KD decided to get rid of his childhood rock collection, so he threw it out the back door into the snow. And since rocks that size are useful to me in the garden, I gathered them up! This is the bed I'm working on this year. It doesn't look like much yet, but I'm planning to slowly fill it with perennials. Right now it has primrose, columbine, a white rose bush, a blueberry bush, lots of tomatoes and marigolds (thanks to KD's grandma), and I've planted a bunch of peas and beans to help the bark mulch deteriorate. This is on the shady side of the garden. It has sweet woodruff (my favourite, though it's not doing as well this year as last year.), hostas, white and pink bleeding hearts, and solomon's seal (which shows no sign of coming up this year). Further to the right, I have some ferns, lily of the valley, and periwinkle. We'll see which takes over. PS: If you want to know how I do any of my gift wrapping, just ask. It's usually very simple.

  4. Your patio is SO great!!! My husband wants to do pavers/bricks next to the porch for the grill. I may let him do it after all!

I'm catching up on my blogs after my long weekend away...your apron is so cute. You did an awesome job. How'd the bridal showers go? (VERY cute wrapping with the tulle, btw!)

  5. Thanks for all the nice comments!

FYI, I didn't take a picture of the ugly side of the yard. Against the house we have a gas meter, garden tools, wobbly concrete steps, garbage can, garden hose, bbq, and a mouse-infested wood pile.

  6. Jo, Built a small lean to in the corner of the yard, stick the tools in it. As for the wobbly steps...WWMD- what would mama do? Rip 'em out and build new ones!Maybe you can build them so that there is a litte storage cubby under them for gardening tools? And the firewood, well, build a quaint-country style wood box. ;)

Oh, and about the rock collection...Why would KD throw them OUT?! I STILL collect rocks!
