Consolation Prize

Look what my mom brought over yesterday! This adorable little table belonged to my Danish great grandparents. It has been sitting neglected in my grandparents' basement for the last 20 or 30 years. I think it even spent some time in Grandpa's garage/workshop. It's filthy, and desperately needs refinishing. But it's just so cute! I don't know yet what I want to do with it. Which is ok, because I have way to many painting projects right now. It will probably eventually be painted, because stripping stain is just too much work. Any ideas? My mom felt really bad that I didn't get the china cabinet, so she immediately claimed this little table for me. I love gate-leg-style tables. They are so conveniently sized. My mom used to have one that was eight feet long, but with the leaves and all put away it collapsed to two feet long.

  1. Cute table! I'm glad your mom snagged that for you. :o) You are right about stripping and's a HUGE hassle and very time consuming. But it can be worth it. Can't wait to see what you do!

  2. I have two I did like this. One was just black and the other white with flowers. there are a ton of possibilities! Jen R

  3. What a cute table! I love folding tables like that. I can't wait to see what you do with it, but it's cute even if you don't do anything to it.

  4. Oh that is a cute table and very handy, too.

  5. Hi Jo :)

I for one hope you don't paint it. I think you should just try some oil on it after it's cleaned to see if it grows on you first. It's really beautiful and that was so sweet of your mom to do that :)

  6. What a treasure! And so much history!! I vote that you refinish is work but with such a valuable family heirloom it will be time well spent. I can already see it done! I love gateleg tables too and have been on the hunt for one for months. Lucky girl!!
I have read all of your posts that I have missed and have had so much fun!! Your vacation pictures are fantastic and I love the new haircut! You look so chic! And as always JK is just too precious for words! You are so fortunate to have such a happy girl- good job mom!!
    Heather :)

  7. :OVE that table and it means so much more because it was in your family.

  8. I always loves those tables. I remember the one mom had, isn't it the same one? I wish I lived closer so I could have some of these awesome furniture pieces grandpa is getting rid of. heh heh Did CZ tell you what she got?
