When Real Estate Deals Go Horribly Wrong

We interrupt this cheerful, creative, non-complaining blog to bring you a special report about When Real Estate Deals Go Wrong {queue suspensful music} So, Thursday afternoon, the day before we were supposed to get possession of our new house, our lawyer called us to say there was a problem. Apparently the sellers neglected to check with their mortgage company to find out whether they could afford to sell their house. Well, when the lawyers were trying to clear the title, they discovered that--surprise!--they had a huge penalty to get out of their mortgage. Of course since they were selling the house at a loss, they couldn't afford it. And we still had to get out of our house that weekend. Saturday morning, all our friends came over to help us move. We moved OUT of our house, and IN to KD's brother's garage. At least our stuff did (including the piano, which did not injure anything, but it did lose a pedal getting out the door.) We are staying in his spare bedrooms. I've spend the last three days over at the old house cleaning, and I'm almost done now. It's slow going with JK around undoing everything, but I was able to leave her with my sister-in-law today and got a lot done. KD is over there right now steam-cleaning the carpets and moving out the last of our stuff. We'll probably have to walk away from this deal and find another house...which is horrible because none of the other houses in our price range are comparable. For now, we're homeless. At least we're not destitute and out on the street! Thank God for our wonderful family and friends! Maybe we should move to Ohio afterall and buy Rue's gorgeous house.

Movin', moo-hoo-oo-oo-oovin', movin' up to glory land!

Ahem. Sorry. Every time I move, I get that song stuck in my head for weeks before and after. And that is the only line I remember. My mom had this southern gospel tape when I was growing up, and that was my brother's favourite song to sing at the top of his lungs when he was about 8 years old. So, we're moving on Saturday! Yay! I get to pick up the keys at noon on Friday, then I plan to take pictures of the empty house to share with y'all before things get chaotic over there on Saturday. We still haven't decided whether KD and his friends will be moving the piano or if we will hire a mover for that. I'd rather a mover do it. I don't want anyone breaking any bones for a junky old piano, even if I love it.

Oh, My Poor Neglected Little Blog!

I've thought about my blog over the past month since I last posted...And I've wondered what my blog friends are doing. My house is all torn apart for moving, and looks both bare and cluttered. We went to the mountains for Christmas and had a great time with 24 other members of my family. Don't pay attention to KD's goofy grin...he never cooperates for pictures. This is my dear sister, who has also been neglecting her blog. Isn't her hair adorable? "Ha-wo? Ha-wo?" Today I was packing up some decorations, and JK was carrying Jasper around saying "Teet-teet! Teet-teet!" (meaning to say "tweet", of course). I can't believe how grown up she is lately. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. I'll try to think of a more interesting post soon. We're moving in 9 days!
