I removed the bench seat and ripped off the cheap black fabric covering the underside of the seat. (Action shot courtesy of the new gorilla tripod that I got for Christmas)
After a new covering of white and tan ticking stripe and a couple of pillows, I'm pleased with the result. A solid tan fabric replaced the black under the seat.
Eventually I want to paint the bench white or something, which would look even better with the fabric. But I'm a little furniture-painting-shy at the moment because I can't get my kitchen chairs to work out. Two are various shades of aqua, and the other two are kind of painted off-white. All four are heavily distressed, but in a destructive preschooler way, not a gracefully aged way.
This bench doesn't really have a home at the moment. After I took down the Christmas tree I moved the french dresser into the kitchen, displacing this bench. I do love the dresser in the kitchen. I guess now I can call it a sideboard. I'm just not sure how it will work when we get a bigger table.

How quaint! I love the fabric on the cushions too
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little bench, and I love the updated version, especially the stripes!

I like the new pillow cover! I wouldn't paint the bench, but I love anything wood - I guess I get that from my dad. Most of the furniture in our house was stained rather than painted. :) We have a couple chairs that I want to re-upholster someday, but that'll be a huge job (and I keep trying to get my mom out here to help me with it, since she's done a bit in the past).
