Some comments I got on my outfit last night from some sweet, grandmotherly ladies:
"So I see you're expecting! Congratulations!"
"You're having a little chickie too, I see!"
And a few weeks ago, Kevin's grandma asked me when I was due. Both times, I was wearing this pretty, flowy, empire-waist chiffon shirt from H&M. I don't know what the problem is! I don't think I look big when I put it on. Is it the pattern? Or maybe those ridiculous ruffles? Or maybe it's the fact that the bust area of the top is too short so I can't tie the drawstring tight enough?
What do you think? Do I look pregnant in this top? (by the way, I'm definitely not pregnant!) Good thing I'm not easily offended.
No, I don't think so, but I find that people assume pregnancy for our age group. I've gotten to the point in my life, though, where I don't want to wear things that cling to my stomach. I'd rather be comfy in something flowy, you know?
ReplyDeleteNo, you do not look pregnant. It's a beautiful top and I love it. Remember there was a time in a woman's life when the minute she found out she was pregnant she started to wear loose fitting clothing. Those days are over and a truly pregnant woman would be showing off a bump.

You don't look pregnant, but it does look like a "maternity" top to me. Empire waists were in style when I was pregnant with Sunshine, so I bought a bunch of non-maternity tops and wore them for most of my pregnancy. :)
ReplyDeleteDevils advocate here.... I think this top is beautiful; however (please note my proper use of a semicolon here), I can see how some might have taken that you were expecting. It seems you and I share the same issue of a larger bust, which makes the shirt hang off and the "pregnant" look happen. Regardless, you are absolutely gorgeous no matter what you wear! If nothing else, you're glowing :D

ReplyDeleteI loved that shirt on you!! The colours were perfect on you, especially with your tan! Just because the style resembles a maternity style, doesn't mean that you actually look pregnant. Although I do find that when I wear flowy tops, I tend to let my tummy relax. When I wear tight-fitting shirts I'm more conscious of my tummy, and I hold it in. It's funny because the top that I wore that night is actually from Thyme Maternity!! After I bought it I found that it was too short to wear once my belly grew, so I wear it now!
