Pretty Menu Planner

My brilliantly-talented friend A came across these two images on Pinterest.  Since we talk about menu planning every other week in our Tuesday morning moms' group, she told us about it, and many of us wanted to try it!    So this week, we all brought our crafting stuff and got busy!

Basically, this pretty menu-planning board takes all the hard work out of a job that most of us always mean to do but never get around to.  The top pocket holds cards with all my usual meals written on them, plus a few new ones.  Each week, all I have to do is chose seven meals clip them onto the appropriate day, and my meals are planned!  Eventually I want to write the ingredients on the back of each card for an almost instant shopping list.

In my version, I hot-glued the pockets and the "menu" on top of the glass.  Most of my friends just removed it.  I didn't want to have to find a place to store a sheet of glass.

  1. cute idea, Jo. Much better than the scrap of paper that usually hangs on the fridge with my weekly menu. I usually try to make a menu up before I grocery shop. When I was raising my family it was a lifesaver as I had an idea of what we were having each night when I got home from work.

  2. Wow, that looks very cute! And very easy to use, as you say. :) I keep seeing people talk about menu planning but it always looks like more work than this. :)

  3. I like it a lot, it look very nice. Well done :-)

  4. That is really cute! (I think everyone thinks the same thing. :) ) I don't have the crafty dexterity to make those sorts of crafts, but I sure do admire people who do... like you!

  5. What a neat project! And don't you feel so organized when you use it?! The shopping list on the back would be what I would want. Planning the menus is easier to me than making the shopping list. Now if I can just find someone who will cook all those planned menus...ha!

  6. I really like this. How did you get the card boxes to stick to the glass. I tried to hot glue them, but they came right off.

    1. Actually, my hot-glued pockets came off too. I still haven't looked for a solution, but I think I'll try some double-side sticky picture-hanging tape. That will definitely stick to the glass! Or sticky velcro would work. Right now, my pockets are being held up by the Saturday and Sunday clothespins...highly attractive, I assure you ;-)
