I hate my dishes. They're matte grey stoneware from Ikea. They're man dishes. We also have a set of 4-colour rainbow dishes from Walmart because even Kevin started to hate the grey. Now I think he's indifferent, but I'm on a mission for change! I want white! Preferably white ironstone like my little thrift-store pitcher. So I'm not just going to pick up a box of Corelle from Walmart to satisfy my white dish craving. I grew up with white Corelle.
But I don't know where to even start looking. Superstore has plain white dishes for $1.00 each that would be suitable. However, I don't want to just snap up the first cheap option I find. They'll be chipped in a week!
I can't afford anything fancy (like Sophie Conran...I've been wanting it for years). Should I collect mis-matched white pieces from thrift/antique stores?
We also need new glasses. The ones we got for our wedding are cloudy and drive me crazy. Any suggestions?

ReplyDeleteRegarding the cloudy cups, is it build up from dishwasher detergent or small scratches? When mine start to look that way, I soak them in a sink full of hot water with vinegar. It seems to make them nice and shiny again.
I'll have to try the vinegar trick. It's probably a combination of both scratches and build-up. Either way, the vinegar will make them look better when I take them to Goodwill...I'm ready for something new.
DeleteI agree, mismatched thrift store finds to make a collection. And since your glasses are 10 years old (right?), maybe a trip to Ikea for some new ones wouldnt' be too expensive.
ReplyDeleteI probably will get our glasses at Ikea. I love their kitchen section. The funny thing is that when we got married we received 3 sets of glasses. We kept only the two sets that matched and returned the Ikea ones. I could go buy identical glasses if I wanted too!
