Our Home: Fall To Do List

Aside from the deep-cleaning this house needs, these are the tasks on my list to make this house prettier and more functional.  Once I finish the table centrepieces for Saturday, my editing for November (self-imposed deadline, October 1st), and get a good start on the posts for October's blog series.  This list does not include things I want to do to the furniture.  Items 1-3 are the only ones Kevin fully supports.

  1. Finish the hole-in-the-wall cupboard.  Ever since Kevin built the shelf and made it usable, I've kind of ignored it.  I can see in my mind's eye exactly what I want it to look like, but I'm a little bit clueless about how to make it happen.
  2. Repair holes in the walk-in-closet wall left from moving the wire shelving.
  3. Patch and paint ensuite bathroom
  4. Paint the master bedroom
  5. Paint the stairwell.  This will require either scaffolding, or a very tall ladder.
  6. Replace the main floor furnace vent covers.  The textured white plastic was a rather ridiculous choice for the high-traffic areas at the front and back doors.  I'd like to get some kind of brownish brushed metal to blend with the tile.
  7. Clean the packing tape residue off the laminate floors where I taped the furnace vent covers in place when the kids were smaller.
I'm sure there are some things I'm forgetting.  What are some of the things on your home's to-do list?

  1. The house in that photo - which I presume is your home - is the kind of house that Jason and I always wonder aloud about as we drive past. We are incredibly happy where we are, and have no plans to move; but we love houses with gabled windows and deep porches with balustrade.

    1. Yep, that's our little duplex. It is quite charming on the outside. My favourite parts are the tiny porch and the cedar shingle siding in the gables. I've always loved looking at different styles of houses whether I'm planning a move or not ;-)

  2. It is such a cute house, I agree with Erin above. You list sounds doable - except the scaffolding (yikes). My list is a mile long starting with stripping wallpaper in the kitchen, painting the cupboards, replacing the counter, hardware and lighting AND putting in ceramics. Not sure if time or budget will allow us to get this done,b ut I would love to have it done by Christmas. And so what am I doing this weekend to accomplish this? Nothing - heading to Toronto for a weekend with friends and family.

  3. Ah your house is so pretty. Sounds like your to-do list will keep you busy!

To answer your question, I don't have a home list right now, as I'm stuck in limbo between houses. :p I wish I had gotten my new condo before Autumn rolled around, but oh well!

  4. What a pretty home! We have a similar to do list. Whatever happened to spring cleaning? I think it's a year-long cleaning process!!! Good luck! :)
